[Chinese (Traditional)] Momotaro: Delicious Grilled Chicken Skewers in Azabu-Juban [Chinese (Traditional)] In Japan yakitori, or grilled chicken, is usually served at izakaya restaurants and yakitori restaurants. It is also a popular street food. If you take a walk around Azabu-Juban shopping street, you can try yakitori from various vendors, but the best and most inexpensive place to eat in is the Momotaro restaurant (ããããã). It is hidden on a small street on the way to Minami-Azabu. If you try to find it without Google maps, turn left at Pizza Strada and walk along the vertical living wall until you see an elegant Japanese-style tree at the entrance. Their menu is bilingual (Japanese and English), which is very convenient for foreigners like me. But even though I have visited it many times, I still had to look up what sunagimo (chicken gizzard) and bonjiri (chicken tails) were. My favorite yakitori is negima, chicken thigh and scallion skewers. It is simply divine! You can find a colorful chart with yakitori chicken parts online and use it while ordering. Even if you donât order a salad, you will get some snack vegetables like cabbage with mayonnaise or boiled edamame (immature soybeans in the pods). Besides chicken, you can try delicious skewers with ginnan â Ginko nuts or quail eggs wrapped in bacon. All kinds of skewers are a good match for beer or sake! Advice: donât buy yakitori at the supermarket. They are cold and donât taste good. You will definitely not like them, because it is very important to use traditional white charcoal as yakitori restaurants do.
