EXPLORING THE JUNGLES OF VILLAGE VANGUARD

Village Vanguard is not your typical bookstore, but it is officially called so. They really have lots of manga – from the 80s. I went there with my Japanese friend, who found her favorite childhood manga and literally spent ages there. So I was given an excellent opportunity to explore every single square meter of this store in Tokyo Dome, LaQua.

Are you a fan of Star Wars? Personally, I have a secret fantasy of Han Solo rescuing (and, if possible, kissing) me, but sipping my morning coffee from C3PO head-shaped mug sounds a bit geeky. R2D2 as well as Darth Vader mugs are a perfect present for my best friend back home! He is very nerdy and will love them, I’m sure.

Fans of The Moomins will find lots of adorable trinkets and snacks.

These plush Totoros stole my heart away!

As my Japanese reading skills are not even close to perfection, I don’t pay much attention to the books without pictures or with too many kanji. The exception is, of course, a new edition of Naoko Takeuchi’s Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon.

Given that you are a woman in her 30s, it certainly brings back sweet memories. I don’t even remember how many times I said, “In the name of the moon I will punish you!” when I was a teenager. But it was only the tip of the iceberg, because I also spotted cat-shaped mugs (blue for Luna, Usagi’s cat, and white for Artemis, Minako’s cat), Princess Serenity postcard and gift bag, Sailor soldier pins, and even the Transformation Brooch! Guess what I bought myself?
