Spend wonderful time with kitties in Cat Cafe Temari no Ouchi, Kichijoji

In incredibly dog-centric Tokyo there are places where you will not hear any barking. Playing with our feline friends, watching them, or even staying in a room full of cats is the new psychotherapy for millions of people all over the world. The first cat cafe in Japan opened in 2004.Temari no ouchiThere are between 30 and 40 cat cafes in Tokyo, so choosing which one is worth visiting is not an easy task. I wouldn’t recommend cafes that were built long time ago. To get the best experience you can pay attention to the new wave cat cafes in Tokyo like Temari no Ouchi.Temari no ouchiIt opened only several years ago, and the owners position it as a relaxation space. The fairytale decor reminded me of Alice in Wonderland and Totoro at the same time.Temari no ouchiEven if the website states that there are many cats in their cat cafe, it does not mean you will see all of them. Cat Cafe Temari no Ouchi is not an exception. The cats are free to go to their “staff room”.Temari no ouchiTemari no ouchiIf you pay 300 yen for a box of chicken breast, the kitties will come running to you. There is also a little show at feeding time.Temari no ouchiUnfortunately, the staff does not speak English (or at least didn’t when I visited there). Don’t break the rules and you will not get yourself into trouble: don’t take photos with flash, don’t try to hug or carry the cats around, and in general don’t do anything to inconvenience the cats or other visitors.

Temari no ouchiFlipping through the guest book also can be fun!Temari no ouchiTemari no ouchiI visited Temari no Ouchi later in the evening, so the entrance fee was only 700 yen.Temari no ouchi
