The famous Shiawase no Pancake, or A Happy Pancake in Omotesando

The newly opened ‘Shiawase no Pancake’ from Osaka is now the most popular new pancake cafe in Tokyo. This fact implies a wait time up to 6 hours. Naturally, I hadn’t even dreamt of visiting it any time soon. But we decided to stop by just in case.

And our luck was incredible: although they were putting out a sign saying last orders had been called, we were let in. We had to order really quickly and there was no time to linger in the corridor to watch how they make these famous pancakes. But of course I had a quick look at the airy merengue batter sizzling away on the griddle.

Shiawase no PancakeMy husband and I went with the most basic and popular version called Shiawase no Pancake: three pancakes topped with Hokkaido whipped butter and New Zealand manuka honey mix, and a pitcher of caramel sauce which tastes like maple syrup (1100 yen per portion). A set drink comes at 350 yen.

Shiawase no PancakeTo be honest with you, pancakes without condiments taste like fluffy omelettes, which is not bad if you are watching your calorie intake. Adding just the right amount of sauce and whipped honey butter is your choice. By the way, the honey really tastes like manuka and that is great!

With six options of sweet, and four options of savory pancakes at Shiawase no Pancake they can equally satisfy female and male customers of all ages, but I saw mostly young women and high school students. The shop interior is green and white with lots of flowers and flower motifs. I wouldn’t say I was fascinated with it, but if you have enough imagination, you can as well image yourself enjoying your pancakes in a garden.Shiawase no Pancake
