Not your typical little coffee shop on a street corner

For my 30th birthday, I bought myself a little box with toy tableware called ぷちサンプルシリーズ 街角のレトロ喫茶店 by RE-MENT.Toy coffee set

No, I don’t feel like I’m 5 (or when do girls have tea ceremonies with their dolls?), it’s just that I love those cute tiny coffee utensils. Even if I don’t know where to put them, or how to appreciate their beauty.

As you can see in the pictures, there are different sets with various items you use to recreate the atmosphere of a retro cafe on a street corner. Although I was aiming for a set with a cup of coffee, a grinder, or at least a plate of pancakes.

There are actually 8 sets:

1. A morning set.

2. Drip coffee.

3. Special curry.

4. Spaghetti Napolitan.Toy coffee shop

5. Coffee time.

6. Coffee date.

7. Old fashioned pancakes.

8. Egg sandwich.

As you can see, I’ve got a set number 4.  This was disappointing, but I should have seen it coming. I have never had any luck with lotteries, Kinder Surprise Eggs, and other things like that. Never. Not even a single time. So I’m happy I couldn’t wait until my actual birthday, and opened it up earlier.

But it turned out not so bad, because now I have a reason to write about my plastic Spaghetti Napolitan / Naporitan (ナポリタン) with grated cheese (粉チーズ). There are also broccoli on the side, and a tiny fork.Toy Napolitan pastaNaporitan may sound rather Italian, but actually it is a pasta-based dish created in Japan. Besides tomato sauce (or ketchup, which was popular in 1960’s), and spaghetti, you can see sliced button mushrooms and some green vegetable that I couldn’t identify. Toy coffee shop

There is also nostalgic (for Japanese people) Melon Cream Soda (クリームソーダ) with a scoop of ice-cream and a maraschino cherry. It reminds the older Japanese of their childhood. When I was a kid, I used to drink cream-soda with less acid coloring. It looked light golden brown, and had a nice vanilla flavor.

The box also contained a tiny menu.Toy shop menu
