Curry at Indian restaurant «Mumbai Kagurazaka»

Due to the existence of a wide range of affordable lunch options, the Indian restaurant Mumbai is not crowded even on weekends. I stopped by on a Saturday after some hesitation about whether I should take out a curry or not. The take out option costs only 580 yen and is attractive because you can choose different kinds of rice, not only white Japanese rice hakumai. Moreover, if you order this lunch set by phone, you will get a free mango lassi, a tasty yogurt-based drink.

As I entered the restaurant on the third floor of a rather shabby old building, I was self consciou. A funny question «Are you Japanese?» asked by the waiter (Indian, of course) made me feel a bit more relaxed.FullSizeRender__2___1442125795_44217He talked using a mixture of poor English and even poorer Japanese but managed to inform us that the higawari (today’s special) was nasu to chikin (eggplant and chicken) curry. Eggplant is a typical fall food in Japan.I wondered whether eggplant curry really existed in India, but apparently Indian cuisine incorporates eggplant into a variety of dishes.

They even have apple naan if you are willing to pay an additional 300 yen. I opted for a simple naan and payed exactly 1000 yen.

Mumbai Kagurazaka is one of a chain of 15 restaurants. At dinner time on Wednesdays, female customers can try on a sari, a national garment in India, at this branch for free.
