Hitachi Kashiwa Stadium, The Home of Kashiwa Reysol

Kashiwa Reysol is one of the famous Football teams in the J League. I had heard about this team before I came to Japan when watching them in the FIFA Club World Cup 2011. Yeah, they deserved to participate in this event after they won the J1 league title in the same year. I told my friend at campus and he said, really? you like Kashiwa Reysol? The stadium is at the next train station after Matsudo station on the JR Joban line, he said. No way!!! I have to watch their match!

Sunday, May 8th, 2016, was my first visit to Hitachi Kashiwa stadium. It is located 1.7 km from the Kashiwa station (JR line). However, please be aware that Kashiwa has two stadiums. In addition to the Hitachi Kashiwa Stadium (home of Kashiwa Reysol, J1 league) there is the Kashiwanoha stadium (sometimes used by Briobecca Urayasu, JFL league). The Hitachi Kashiwa soccer stadium is near the JR Joban Line (Kashiwa station) and the Kashiwanoha stadium, is located near the Tsukuba express line. Both of them are big Soccer stadiums, and even though Kashiwanoha stadium is not used by the J1 league, it is bigger than the Hitachi Kashiwa soccer stadium.

When I arrived at Kashiwa station, I took the East Exit and where I found a plaza. There were no directions to the Kashiwa soccer stadium. All I saw were several posters of the Kashiwa Reysol team but I did not see any signs to the Fukuda Denshi Arena. It was one hour before the match and I did not want to miss the kick off. I also did not have enough money for a taxi and had no time to check the bus routes to the stadium. So what should I do? My gut said, just follow the Yellow Jersey shirts! Yeah, the Jersey of Kashiwa Reysol.

Follow the yellow Jersey

When you arrive at Kashiwa station, you will see many people wearing yellow shirts, so follow them. You will walk along a little road between buildings and after 17 minutes’ walk you will come to a crossroads. You’ll see a park across the road, ticket counters and an information center. You can buy a ticket there. But, because they play in J1 league, I would suggest you buy it at a convenience store such as Lawson.

Continue to follow the yellow shirts entering the park. In the middle of the park, you will find a square stadium, Hitachi Kashiwa Soccer Stadium. There is a corner for parking baby’s cars. It is the first time I’ve seen a parking area for baby’s cars. The stadium is small so they have to manage spectators’ belonging in order to give everyone space to enjoy the game.

The stadium is small, so you are very close to the football field. It is an advantage to see the players close by. But watch the ball while the game is on. There is no roof so I would suggest you bring a cap and sun glasses, or if it is raining bring your rain coat.

The stadium. No borders between spectators, no roof shelter even in the Main Stand.
