Karuizawa Prince Shopping Plaza, or Outlet in the heart of nature

I really don’t get shopping at outlet malls. The sizes are usually too small or too big, colors are too strange, and prices are still too high to be super affordable. Some Japanese people say that they have bought many unnecessary things because of “outlet magic”; low prices make things more attractive than they are in reality, and you end up buying them. My outlet magic  is more like an “anti-buying spell”. We only bought Le Creuset pot once, and it had a really good discount.

There are many factory stores and outlet sales of various brands for buyers with various purchasing possibilities, starting with Gap and Banana Republic, and ending with Ralph Lauren and Gucci. That brings window shopping to a brand new level.

By all means do get some seriously discounted chocolate left after Valentine’s Day or Halloween. They taste great!

I even tried this new beer at Seven-Eleven.Prince Shopping PlazaShopping can be very exhausting. There are several options to get some rest and a cup of coffee like Tully’s, Starbucks, or Mikado coffee, pancakes (cafe Cerfieul), or ice-cream (Cold Stone). If you are in a mood for something savory, visit one of the restaurants in Aji no Machi (Tasty Street) or a food court with Chinese food, okonomiyaki, gyoza, and ramen. There’s nothing like a bowl of hearty ramen on a cold day!

As Karuizawa is a popular skiing resort, you can see this cute Nagano Prefecture mascot called Arukuma everywhere.
