Lunch at Camphor, Saga Airport

Low cost airline, Spring Airlines, has begun services from Saga airport! And, with return tickets to Narita or even Shanghai from as low as 5700 yen there’s no doubt that this tiny airport is about to get much busier!
If you’re feeling a little peckish, try the cafe on the third floor where you can taste Saga’s own “soul food” Sicilian rice! (See:Saga’s “Soul food”: Sicilian Rice at Retrokan)

Sicilian rice
A large plate of rice, topped with a generous helping of stir fried meat and vegetables!
Sicilian rice!
You’ll find slices of fried lotus root, a specialty of Shiroishi, nori seaweed from the nearby Ariake and other specialties from Saga in this dish. The view from the window looks out on to the runway and over towards the Ariake sea.

Even if don’t intend to fly, it’s a pleasant drive out to the airport, there are a couple of great parks and walks nearby and the airport parking is free. So if you have a little time to spare and would like a different atmosphere, why not drop by this pleasant little cafe and have a bite to eat or a coffee while watching the planes. Be warned however, there aren’t many scheduled flights per day so you may miss the planes!! You can also get a great view of the surrounding area from the observation deck above the cafe.
Experience a little of Saga hospitality in this small airport. Below, employees hold up a sign which says “Thank you for Flying. Hope to see you at Saga Airport again”.
