Ark Hills Music Week: A magical jazz evening

People can enjoy Ark Hills Music Week in Tokyo every October since 2010. The program is designed mainly for families with kids. Many parents were looking forward to workshops with the famous Michael Spenser and Japan Philharmonic Orchestra for 60 children. High school students of different schools performed with their orchestras.Ark Hills Music Week

But some events were a real feast for adults’ ears and eyes. As a fan of jazz music, I just couldn’t miss the Friday jazz concert by jazz orchestra Ciao of Musashino Academia Musicae (武蔵野音楽大学). Held in Ark Karajan, it became a nice surprise for people who dined at Bubby’s New York.Ark Hills Music WeekMusahino Academia Musicae has a long history. Founded in 1929, it is one of the most popular conservatories in Tokyo. The students and several graduates skilfully performed jazz standards, starting off with signature opening piece of Duke Ellington and His Orchestra “Take the A train”. It was followed by the beautiful energetic “Sing, Sang, Sung”, nostalgic “Hay burner”, funky “The chicken”, romantic “Moonlight serenade” and many other amazing songs.Ark Hills Music WeekArk Hills Music Week

Actually, jazz was played everywhere during the Ark Hills Music Week: at the lobby of ANA Intercontinental Tokyo, or at Ark Hills Cafe:Jazz Festival, and of course at the Music Week finale concert.
